Since 1964, Providence Community Action has served as the City of Providence's Anti-Poverty agency, providing many social service programs to the city's low-to moderate income residents.

In the past year, Providence Community Action provided the following services:

  • Secured heating assistance for more than 6,500 families.
  • Restored utilities for 1,000 households whose gas or electric were shut off
  • Distributed more than 2.5 million pounds of food to pantries and closets statewide.
  • Sheltered over 250 homeless families.
  • Provided more than 200 Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets.
  • Helped 300 households with rent/security deposit grants
  • Provided more than 5,000 counseling sessions, including substance abuse counseling, family counseling, individual therapy, and group counseling.
  • Educated and counseled over 100 at risk middle school students
  • Helped more than 100 clients find and retain employment
  • Provided comprehensive case management services to more than 400 families
  • Weatherized 190 homes
  • Installed 100 boilers for low income households without heat
  • Transported 210 Elderly and Handicapped Providence Residents
  • Developed 10 units of New Housing for the Disabled.
  • Prepared and Filed more than 170 Income Tax Returns for Low Income Families
  • Maintained and managed 35 units of affordable housing for low to moderate income Providence residents.
