Who Are The People Behind Providence Community Action?
The Community Action Philosophy builds on the tradition of inclusion and participation by mandating that representatives of the poor be included on the Board of Directors, which is the policy-making body of the Corporation.
ProCAP has a unique Board structure. One-third are appointed by the Mayor of Providence, one-third are democratically elected to represent the low-income population, and the remaining one-third are selected by the Public and Poor Sectors from a list of organizations in the City, who have demonstrated their concern in addressing the needs of low-to-moderate income residents.
The composition of the current 15-member Board reflects this goal of maximum effective participation of the entire community:
